Katzen-Tinder (MiezMatch) – A Playful Companion Finder for Cats
Katzen-Tinder (MiezMatch) is a fun and intuitive app designed for cat owners to find perfect playmates for their pets. The app features a swipe mechanism similar to popular dating platforms, where users can view cat profiles and swipe right to match with potential companions. Once a match is made, owners can connect and arrange playdates for their cats. The interface is user-friendly, with playful design elements that reflect the lighthearted nature of the app. MiezMatch makes it easy and enjoyable for cat lovers to build a social network for their furry friends.
Role: UX/UI Designer
Tools Used: Miro, Figma, Azure DevOps
Team Structure: Collaborated with developers, product managers, and cat enthusiasts.
Problem Statement
Katzen-Tinder aimed to create a unique, engaging platform for cat owners to find ideal playmates for their pets. The goal was to design a user-friendly app that simplified the matchmaking process for cats, making it both playful and intuitive, while ensuring a smooth user experience for cat owners.
Process
1. Discovery
User Research: Conducted an in-depth analysis of existing pet matchmaking apps like Cats Tinder and Kitty Nip, alongside popular human dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble. This helped identify successful user flows and engagement strategies.
Target Audience Insights: Discovered that cat owners prioritize simplicity and visual appeal. Main pain points included the complexity of current apps and a lack of engaging, cat-centric designs.
2. Definition
User Flow & Wireframes: Developed detailed wireframes outlining key functions like user profiles, swipe features for matching, and match confirmation screens. Ensured the user journey was seamless and aligned with the playful experience we aimed to deliver.
Storyboarding: Created a storyboard to visualize the core user interactions:
Luna's Loneliness: Luna, a thoughtful cat, sits by the window in a cozy apartment, clearly feeling lonely.
Discovery of MiezMatch: Sarah, Luna's owner, notices Luna's loneliness and discovers the MiezMatch app on her phone.
Profile Setup: Sarah sets up Luna’s profile by uploading photos and adding charming details about her.
Browsing Profiles: Sarah attentively browses through profiles of other cats, seeking the perfect companion for Luna.
Match Notification: A notification pops up—Luna has been matched with a cat named Dexter.
Successful Match: Luna happily connects with her new friend, Dexter, alleviating her loneliness.
This storyboard emphasized the emotional journey of both the pet and the owner, highlighting how the app brings joy and companionship.
3. Development
Prototyping & Iterations: I developed the high-fidelity prototype in Figma, iterating based on usability testing feedback. Testers loved the concept but requested improvements in the visual hierarchy, so I refined the profile page and swipe mechanism, making sure all key information was easily accessible.
Usability Testing: After initial design drafts, I conducted usability tests focusing on the match sequence. The heart and like buttons were integrated into the profile picture, while information was compacted under the profile photo for a better swipe experience.
Component
4. Delivery
Final Design & Handoff: I delivered a final design with polished UI elements that emphasized a fun and engaging experience. The clickable prototype included screens for login, profile setup, swipe mechanics, and a post-match interaction.
Outcome: The app effectively connected cat owners with ideal companions for their pets, providing an intuitive experience that facilitated meaningful interactions in a playful manner. We successfully created a unique niche in the pet matchmaking industry by blending usability with a light-hearted design.
Outcome
MiezMatch successfully connected cat owners with ideal companions for their pets, offering an intuitive and enjoyable user experience. The carefully crafted user flow ensured that users could effortlessly navigate the app, leading to higher engagement and satisfaction. By blending usability with a light-hearted design, MiezMatch carved out a unique niche in the pet matchmaking industry.

Conclusion
Designing MiezMatch underscored the importance of a user-centric approach and the critical role of a well-defined user flow. By prioritizing the needs and emotions of users and their pets, we created an app that is both functional and delightful. Continuous research, testing, and iteration were key in delivering a product that not only met user needs but also enriched their lives.
